that depends on your configuration of syslog, some Linux distributions 
have only /var/log/messages

since you do get logging from jk_chrootsh, and not from jk_lsh (I 
suppose you are using jk_lsh inside the jail?), are you running 
jk_socketd? (check `ps ax|grep jk_socketd`)
