I'm not sure where I picked that style up from... perhaps the argz
sources in glibc.  Pity it isn't (cleanly) portable since I thought it
was nice in that the externness of a function was encapsulated in one
place, and wouldn't require editing things in 2 places if we decided
to expose an internal function through the API at some point.

Anyway, I agree that warning are icky.  Thanks for the patch.  Applied.
