Ah, well there you go. Current sed on cygwin (which I am using) is GNU sed version 4.0.5.
Because of this error, win32_libid() library detection fails and it returns "unknown", so that DLL link doesn't work at all.
Certainly; I understand the need for the patch, and it has my vote. It seems that sed-4.0.5 is a little more relaxed on this detail, while sed-3.02 chokes. We don't want sed to choke, and both sed-4.0.5 and sed-3.02 are "happy" with your patch -- so it ought to be applied.
