It wasn't really a "cleanup" or "cosmetic" patch. The output of libtool 
linking on Mac OS X was confusing enough for a sleepycat engineer to patch 
it. I think it was a bug, and I thought my second commit to be extremely 
conservative (I even called myself a wimp in the ChangeLog). I did not 
foresee a possibility of breakage, I am sorry for making that assumption.
