This failure is curious. It doesn't happen when I run the testsuite on
Cygwin, so I'm wondering what's causing the badness...

How did you configure your libtool? I have tested with a plain old
../configure, and with --disable-shared which makes the test skip and
with --disable-static with no effect on the test.

Do you have some verbose output to share?
