the CG is quite clear about using out-of-tree builds.
That said, I quite agree that the candidate for reverting is
f7d264fa89c39f8d86e9ba5eb991ee904ce3d0be
in issue 2524.
My apologies to you and Eluze for changing the wrong issue.
