Comment #20 on issue 2823 by address@hidden: Patch: Fixes position of mensural c clef
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=2823 Hi all,the manuscript that David mentioned that I was referring to is indeed in the *old* MGG, vol. 9, table 94, near column #1650. It contains a clef consisting of really *three* breve-like heads. There is a "b" accidental aligned with the middle breve. This situation occurs on two lines, so I am pretty sure this is not a mistake of the manuscript author. In other words, the three breve-like heads are aligned with the g, h and d staff lines. From that point of view, maybe this clef should be considered as a G clef rather than a C clef, as the three breve-like heads effectively constitute a G major or minor "chord" (yes, of course I know that "chords" in the modern sense appear only some centuries later...).
The referred manuscript depicts the Ockeghem's "Missa Prolationum" from the Chigi Codex (Ms. Chigi C VIII 234, fol. 106v-107). The manuscript dates from around 1500 (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chigi_codex). Note that this piece of music is *very* special (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missa_prolationum), and maybe this piece just also uses a very special clef.
By the way, if you want to change the musical meaning of the clef (i.e. the pitch that is in the center of the clef), you should not change the glyph, but the clef's properties in parser-clef.scm (in particular, the definition of c0-pitch-alist).
Hope that helps, Jürgen
