I found no time to do some experiments/investigation so far, might be  
better the upcoming weekend.

That said, the style-property was part of the unpatched \note-by-number.  
The current patch only extends its usage. So I can't see any reason for  
count-down-delay, so far. The newly added flag-style-property is  
conceptionally similiar.

Though,
your questions (comment #9) _are_ very important,
So I'd be perfectly fine with aborting the count-down for now, until  
someone comes up with a well-grounded expertise about overriding properties  
(or, at least, until I had the opportunity to do some experimenting myself).
