They are not sufficient for finding the issue from the commit: how is the person looking for the commit to know just how many digits you consider "sufficient" when entering his search term? And anyway: even if 8 digits are sufficient at the current point of time: what gives you the guarantee that no commit will ever arrive in future that has the same 8 starting digits?
