Regarding #7: is may still be a lack of actual available memory to  
_GUILE_.  It has its own memory allocation scheme.

At any rate, the consumed memory size does not appear to be in a sane  
relation to the score.  It's about a megabyte per two-measure line.  We may  
be talking about a long-standing bug here, but it definitely seems like a  
bug to me.
