I had this problem and got more or less the same result testing with
\repeat unfold 651 { c'1 c  \break }

My own file is actually full of notes and I tried reducing the number of  
bars while keeping the number of notes (going from quarters to 64ths), and  
it crashes just the same. Looks like it can't process the graphical part

Is there some workaround for this? Would it be possible for instance make  
smaller files and combine them at some point keeping the correct page  
numbers?
