No, it's a proof of concept.
To be honest, a more practical solution would seem to be a proper
lilypond script editor - i.e. one that supports MIDI step entry, allows
easily adding articulations to multiple notes at once, adding
text/dynamics to multiple staves at once, etc. etc....and of course a
preview button!
I've tried using lilypond to create orchestral scores, and it really is
very difficult to visually keep track of where everything is.
There are some other packages for that. Check out eg. noteedit or
rosegarden.
