This is an easy mistake to make. When using \addlyrics or \lyricsto, you typically only provide the lyrics themselves within \lyricmode, omitting durations since they will be automatically assigned based on the notes in the associated voice.
However, \lyricmode does permit specify durations for individual lyrics directly. The parser, therefore, has to be able to accept numbers as durations. As such, to include numbers within lyrics literally, you need to place them within a pair of quotation marks.
