Which version of LTIB are you using (do you have the date field from the
iso image)?

I suspect this may be an older ISO and that is causing the issue.  An
explicit "-lz" would probably fix this but shouldn't be needed.  Can
you:

* Send the output of: /opt/freescale/ltib/usr/bin/rpm -q mkspooflinks

* Check you have (or similar):
$ ls rootfs/usr/lib/libz*
rootfs/usr/lib/libz.a*   rootfs/usr/lib/libz.so.1@
rootfs/usr/lib/libz.so@  rootfs/usr/lib/libz.so.1.2.3*
