[Ltib] How to set up initramfs?

I've been using NFS mount for root and now it's time to deploy the  
image.

I can't figure out how to set up the kernel config for the initramfs  
(tmpfs) root file system.

I had been keeping the stripped root filesystem in rootfs.tmp and  
tried pointing the source to there, but after a distclean the  
rootfs.tmp went away.

Is there an easier way, or am I missing something?

I don't want to have the whole rootfs, (include files, rpmdb, etc.),  
and I don't need a filesystem image either.

I just want to include the root filesystem with the zImage.

How should I do this?
