Follow-up Comment #27, bug #50837 (project lwip): Joel, sorry for taking so long again. Technically, the patch seems to do what we need. I'm not happy with adding yet another counter though. Our TCP keeps growing lately :-( (even if this doesn't influence RAM in this special case). This and the fact that TCP_MAXRTX leads to a different timeout for the persist phase (backoff timeouts are different) makes me think we should rather have a connection timeout expressed in seconds, but I don't know if that's OK with the RFCs...
