Sounds like a job for the "anything goes" mode of lynx.
Rather than adding in lots of special cases, I thought the idea was to
have one mode of Lynx where people put work arounds for the various sloppy
html coding practices which stopped lynx from displaying. This provided
lynx with a 'right' way of displaying html and a 'most common' way .
