Can you reproduce this?
If yes, try both
- running lynx under strace
- running lynx with -trace [-tlog]
and look at (or send us) the last screenful or so of debugging
output for each.

Which Debian lynx package version?
I tried to reproduce it, using 2.8.1-3, and couldn't.

"The one that is in the kernel" - not really a meaningful question
for UNIX systems normally, but for VMS.
