slang is using the characters that some fonts contain for line-drawing. However, it's unlikely that slang _knows_ which font you have loaded in the console window (I don't recall that the win32 console api allowsan application to load fonts...).
I rebuilt lynx to use PDcurses; no problems with box-chars. So there is probably a bug in recent versions of S-Lang... --gv
