there's that - the symbol is used in the code in two places. Both use the common logic in lynx that finds the home directory, which can be overridden by setting the HOME environment variable (for Unix of course - other systems may use different symbols). Lynx uses the HOME environment variable rather than looking in the password-file. So you could make a simple script which invokes lynx with different configuration (lynx.cfg and/or .lynxrc) customized for different purposes. -- Thomas E.
