(Being on the Digest, I originally responded privately)

I skipped mentioning the -auth       and other stuff
in my schematic description of the problem, don't
really want anyone to bust a gut trying to solve the problem,
but just thought someone might realize what the was going wrong.

I tried switching the '-dump' to '-source'
and changed the lynx invocation  from

lynx - <<STEP


to 

lynx - <<STEP | lynx -stdin  -force_html

and the expected information showed up in the form input fields
in an interactive session.
