Lzip currently behaves like bzip2. I plan to implement an option in lzip 
(--ignore-errors) to do more or less what you want, write the partially 
decoded data and don't remove the input file. This way, if what is 
damaged is the file trailer, the correct uncompressed data can be recovered.

For error recovery of concatenated compressed files I plan to write a 
"lzrecover" utility, more or less like the bzip2recover of bzip2.

I also plan to write a library able of doing the equivalent of 
Z_FULL_FLUSH. Lzip will then be modified to make it able to decompress 
such files.
