I am pleased to announce the release of lzip 1.5.

Lzip is a lossless data compressor based on the LZMA algorithm, with very safe integrity checking and a user interface similar to the one of gzip or bzip2. Lzip decompresses almost as fast as gzip and compresses better than bzip2, which makes it well suited for software distribution and data archiving.

The homepage is at http://www.nongnu.org/lzip/lzip.html.

The sources can be downloaded from
http://download.savannah.gnu.org/releases/lzip/.

The md5sums are:
5c4a933d2f5d939f257b56be403e5659 lzip-1.5.tar.gz
133bb7d557297c6665704977daf6266a lzip-1.5.tar.lz

This release is also GPG signed. You can download the signature by appending ".sig" to the URL.

Changes in version 1.5:

* Codification of dictionary size in file header has been changed. At least lzip 1.4 is needed to decompress files produced by lzip 1.5.

  * A problem that prevented compilation with GCC 4.4 has been fixed.

  * "--member-size" and "--volume-size" have been made more accurate.

* Compression ratio and speed have been improved at the cost of using 4MiB more of RAM.

  * Compression speed has been doubled for dictionary sizes < 64KiB.

  * The chapter "Algorithm" has been added to the manual.

* Lzdiff and lzgrep now accept "-h" for "--help" and "-V" for "--version".

  * Man page is now installed by default.
