Not at all. The license in the source code also explains that "[if] you compile this file and link it with other files to produce an executable, this file does not by itself cause the resulting executable to be covered by the GNU General Public License".


I assume you meant the latter and that "a free software library"
refers to Lzlib, but I wasn't quite sure.

Yes, but it does not refer only to lzlib. You may modify lzlib and create your own version of the library and link it with any software you like. If you distribute your modified library, you just need to release the source of your library, not the source of the code using (linking to) it.
