Thank you for reporting this.

I have fixed it mostly as you suggest, but prepending an underscore as 
suggested by gnulib[1]. I have inserted the following at line 47 of main.cc 
and at corresponding lines in the rest of tools:

  #define mkdir(name,mode) _mkdir(name)
