GNU man and "hyphen minus"

Hi all.

I have MacOS Catalina. In MacOS

$ /usr/bin/man -v
man, version 1.6g

have some problem with some man pages from HomeBrew (tmux for insance). And so
I installed man-db from HomeBrew:

$ brew info man-db
man-db: stable 2.9.0 (bottled)
Unix documentation system
https://www.nongnu.org/man-db/
/usr/local/Cellar/man-db/2.9.0 (63 files, 1.3MB) *
  Poured from bottle on 2020-01-13 at 16:27:29
From: https://github.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/blob/master/Formula/man-db.rb
==> Dependencies
Build: pkg-config ✔

Wiith this man I have the next problem. All symbols "hyphen minus" are
converted to: hyphen, minus, dashes, etc. And this lead to two troubles: search
for commands with "hyphen minus" don't work and copy/paste from the man page
such commands useless (because it has hyphen instead of "hyphen minus"). This
is with utf-8 locale, for instance en_US,UTF-8.

The simple workaround is use option -E ascii, for instance:

man -E ascii tmux

Is here more direct and correct way to suppress converting "hyphen minus", but
keep utf8 encoding?
