Thomas and myself are using poedit (same Debian/Ubuntu package).

Usually, you don't have to do this manually. They are used to put
translated strings in the "fuzzy" state, i.e. you have a translation but
you might need to update it (because the source code has changed/moved).
Once you have reviewed the string, you can un-fuzzy it with you
translation software.
