1. David Megias, MEng, PhD, Member IEEE
Dr. David Megias achieved the Engineering degree in Computer Science in July
1994, the Master Engineering degree in Computer Science (Advanced Automatic
Control) in October 1996 and the PhD in Computer Science in July 2000, all of
them by the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). He was an assistant
lecturer at the UAB from September 1994 to October 2001. Since October 2001, he
is a lecturer at the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) with a permanent
position. Since October 2002, he is also the co-director of the International
Master Programme on Free Software which is currently offered at the UOC (first
semester November 2003 - February 2004 with 90 students). His current teaching
activities are mostly related to free and open source software and has
participated in several forums and conferences concerned with education and
free software. His current interests include free software and open source
software, security and copyright protection schemes, and process control. He
has published several research papers in different international conferences
and journals. He has participated in several national joint research projects
both as a contributor and as a manager (main researcher). He has also
experience in European projects, such as the European Network of Excellence of
Cryptology (joint group with the Universidad de Vigo) of the FP6.

2. Rafael Macau
Mr. Rafael Macau achieved the degrees in Computer Science by the Universitat
Politecnica de Catalunya, in Information Sciences by the Universitat Autonoma
de Barcelona and Mathematics by the Universidad de Barcelona. Since 2001, he is
the Director of the Department of Computing and Multimedia at the UOC, and
since 2002 he is also the co-director of the International Master Programme on
Free Software which is currently offered at the UOC. He has more than 20 years
of experience in managing positions related to Information Technologies (Nelson
Taylor Sofres, Organising committee of the Olymnpic Games Barcelona 1992,
INDRA, CIGESA and the Centre of Telecommunications and Information Technologies
of the Catalan Government), and was the Director of the computer systems of the
Olympic Games which took place in Barcelona in 1992. He has a wide experience
in managing and has participated in several forums and conferences related to
information and communication technologies.

3. Julia Minguillon MEng, PhD, Member IEEE
Dr. Julia Minguillon achieved the Engineering degree in Computer Science in
1995, the Master Engineering degree in Computer Science (Digital Communications
and Combinatorics) in 1997, and the PhD in Computer Science in 2002, all of
them by the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). He has been part of the
teaching staff of the UAB since 1995, and he joined the Universitat Oberta de
Catalunya (UOC) in 2001. He has been involved in the open software world since
1994. Among other projects, he has helped to develop the progressive operation
mode of the Independent JPEG Group (IJG) library, widely used. He has also
participated in the organization of several seminars and courses about open
software, programming and other topics. Since 2002, he is the coordinator of an
e-learning project (UOC, IBM España and Fundacio "la Caixa") which involves the
use of structured languages for e-learning environment design and the use of
data and web mining tools for studying the navigational behavior of the users
of such environments. His research fields are copyright protection schemes,
watermarking and fingerprinting, the distribution of multimedia content using
structured metadata, and web and data mining for user and system analysis.

4. Josep Prieto, MEng
Mr. Josep Prieto Graduated in Computer Science at the Universitat Politecnica
de Catalunya (UPC) in 1993 and attained a teaching certificate in the Doctoral
Course of Computer Science in the Dept. of Computer Architecture DAC-UPC
(1996-1998). He is currently completing his doctoral thesis. Since 1998, he has
worked as a lecturer within the department of Computer Science and Multimedia
of the UOC, and since February 2001 as director of the Technical Engineering
for Information Systems programme (ETIS). His line of research principally
centers on exploratory and application technology in the field of ICT, and has
participated in the wireless, and free software tools for learning in virtual
environments projects, and is also a member of the K-riptography and
Information Security for Open Networks (KISON) research group. He has
participated in the organization of several seminars and courses, about free
software (Registered user GNU/linux #201676).

5. Jordi Serra, MEng
Mr. Jordi Serra achieved the Engineering degree in Computer Science in July
1997 and the Master Engineering degree in Computer Science in October 2001 all
of them by the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (UAB). He was an assistant
lecturer at the UAB from September 1997 to July 2002. From July 2002, he is a
lecturer at the UOC (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) with a permanent
position. His current interests include free software and open source software,
operating systems (GNU/Linux) and copyright protection schemes applied to
audio. He is currently carrying out his PhD research on watermarking.
