Hi,i think it is maybe good think to have monit send alert, in the event when core of the process was found in the environment before actualy restarting the process (for example through extending alert statement by core option: 'alert on core').
To the core managment itself - i think it is job for other tools (for example solaris had build-in core managment). As you wrote later to this hint, maybe monit (superior) code base could be suitable to build such core manager - but i think thats other cup of tea :)

I was speaking to a friend of mine, and he suggested that a good feature for monit might be core file management. Basically, you'd rename, rotate, delete, store, sort, etc core files, and optionally call out a script to do something (like some analysis) with them.
