Monit permissions issue

I installed Monit 5.4 on Redhat 5
I'm trying to get it up and running
when trying to run the command ./bin/monit
i get the error
monit: The control file '/home/<username>/monit-5.4/monitrc must be owned by you

do i need to change the permissions on this file?
