Actually, the first pattern can also be an exclude. So a simpler syntax
is this:

<scheme>://[[<user>@@]<host>[:<port>]][/<path>][?<pattern>[;<pattern>]...]

Branches matching a pattern are excluded if the pattern starts with
'-', included otherwise.
