I expect that the "bogus multipart content" will be a problem.
Does this get rid of that error message:

    mhfixmsg -out - msg | mhlist -file -

where msg is the original, unmodified message?  If so, then you
can replace mhlist(1) with mhstore(1).  mhfixmsg(1) also has a
-file switch if you prefer.
