Pillip,

I think that is is useful information.  But I also
think that this has been a very long-standing problem.
There was a time when I thought it was, at least in part,
a gnuplot problem.  But, this is now obviously not true.

I cannot work on this right now, but I hope it gets
fixed.  In a week or two I can try to work on it if
no one else has beaten me to it.
