The format options for gnuplot are at the link below.

As the "%s" to "%g" change is unrelated to this bug, I think it best to
propose a second changeset for that purpose.

In any event, rather than changing the format from "%s" to "%g" should the
format statement just be omitted when the tick labels are specified as a
cellstring array?
