Thanks for the investigation.
As far as I'm concerned this particular issue won't be fixed anymore in the
current strread/textread/textscan versions.
This behavior is similar to bug #38587 and is related to the way text files
are parsed. Nothing to be done about it, except a binary (x)textscan.
