Follow-up Comment #27, bug #38564 (project octave): This is figured out. In llvm 3.1 the *.a files in /usr/lib64/llvm are provided by llvm-devel. In 3.2 they are provided by llvm-static. There is no llvm-static in the llvm release 3.1 for Fedora. So, it appears that llvm was being built with static libraries all along.
