Follow-up Comment #1, bug #39578 (project octave):
But, if you plot subplots, you can use
the mouse to pan and zoom any of the
subplots. But, gca() returns the axis
handle of the "last" subplot. So, somehow
it is known which subplot the cursor is on.
That is a start.
