Hello,
  on ubuntu 12.04 64 bit

./standalone prints out:
Hello Octave world!
(6e+06,0)
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 759: _dl_close: Assertion
`map->l_init_called' failed!

on macos 10.8.4 64bit is more worse:

./standalone
standalone(2247) malloc: *** error for object 0x7fff77c46570: pointer being
freed was not allocated
*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
Abort trap: 6
