Octave's Community News widget tries to access the Internet on each launch of
Octave, even when it isn't visible.
My firewall alarms me consistently for each new Octave build (it apparently
keeps track of executable checksums). Now Octave is of course trusted; but I
think it is better if Octave goes to the Web only if/when explicitly requested
by the user.
