I have just pushed a change (revision 12290) that should fix some of the
problems mentioned.

As my version of GNU units was 1.88 and didn't had any problem, I'm unsure if
it actually does fix. Could others please test it? Please see

In addition, it should be able to identify attempts to non-linear conversion
and give an appropriate error.
