Follow-up Comment #3, bug #40350 (project octave):

I checked in a changeset that I hope will fix this issue:

If you build in a separate directory tree, you may need to edit the
src/.deps/main.Po file so that it refers to the new main.cc file that is
supposed to be generated in the build tree instead of the main.cc file that
used to be in the source tree.

I'll follow up with more info on the mailing list.
