Follow-up Comment #8, bug #40381 (project octave):

I compiled octave id b5d58667d32d last night successfully with the latest mxe
(patcahed for the 3.7.7+ number and checksum change) and it compiled ok.

I havent tried running it yet, but will when I get the chance.

Unfortunately I will be out for a day or two and will only have the ability to
compile/run native mingw code until I get back.
