Follow-up Comment #1, bug #42589 (project octave):

I get the correct results for 3.6.4, 3.9.0+, 4.1.0+.  I'm running Kubuntu
12.04 with gcc 4.6.3.

You might try configuring with '--enable-float-truncate' and see if the
problem goes away.  You're not compiling with any option that might turn on
'-ffast-math' are you?
