Does this fix the problem for you?
I'm not sure whether this problem can be fixed without a change in the Range
interface, so I'm not sure whether this is appropriate for the stable branch.
However, it is just a change in the private interface because we are adding a
new constructor that is protected and only used internally in the Range class.
Is that an acceptable change or does it break binary compatibility (something
we try to guarantee for hte stable release series)?
