Follow-up Comment #4, bug #42927 (project octave):
I pushed your second changeset to properly color axis labels here
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/2ceb734a663f).
I'll file a new bug report about the color of the axis lines and tick marks.
In the FLTK toolkit the axis, tickmarks, and ticklabels are all controlled by
the 'xcolor', 'ycolor', or 'zcolor' property.
