Follow-up Comment #1, bug #43063 (project octave):

I'm on 4.3.1 and am also having problems, different from yours.

configure:36318: gcc -o conftest -O3 -mfpmath=sse -march=native -s
-fomit-frame-pointer -pthread     conftest.c -lamd -lm   >&5
//usr/local/lib/libamd.so: undefined reference to `SuiteSparse_config'
//usr/local/lib/libamd.so: undefined reference to `SuiteSparse_free'
//usr/local/lib/libamd.so: undefined reference to `SuiteSparse_malloc'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

I've tried specifying the include directory with
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/include" but it doesn't fix it.
