Follow-up Comment #27, bug #44916 (project octave):

Hmm, well, now I have a report that my current build of 3.8.2 fails but an
older version that I built around the time of the 3.8.2 release works
properly.

I have no idea what dependency or build tool has changed that could cause
that.
