Follow-up Comment #3, bug #45125 (project octave):

I fixed this as in the attached diff (not yet pushed).

I am not sure what to do about deprecation of the nargout == 3 case or what to
do if griddata is called with nargout == 2 for example (I'll get someone to
check this for me if I get a chance).
