See this cset from 10 days ago
(http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/dd6345fd8a97).  It removed
support for the 0-argument form of gripe_invalid_index.

I pushed a quick fix here
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/d35201e5ce5d.  You should be able
to just do another 'hg pull; hg update' and then re-compile.
