Follow-up Comment #5, bug #46197 (project octave):
For now the workaround will have to be to disable the opengl rendering and
fall back to gnuplot
graphics_toolkit ("gnuplot")
glxinfo says among other thing that:
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 (Broadwell GT2)
